JOE & THE JUICE is a Danish food and beverage company with a high focus on helping their visiting guests getting a healthier lifestyle — while the guests are both enjoying and taking part of a unique culture with a high focus on including everyone.
JOE & THE JUICE is serving fresh made juices, made-to-order sandwiches, and salads. The organization has always been about the culture, and expressed themselves with a rock'n'roll approach(to almost everything). They've recently developed a new commercial strategy which should adapt more to the most recent retail universe.
Never to forget — JOE & THE JUICE has, and will always be about the culture, expressing individual's, exposing healthiness and other cultural factors like music, travel, fashion, etc.
This case is all about breaking incalculable projects down, and be well prepared. While I was an in-house design developer for JOE & THE JUICE, they needed me to be the supervisor of their first worldwide menu change.
It's a brand with +300 stores, 15 markets, 10 languages and 5 different product outputs. This means be needed a very lean structure on how to handle all information. Therefore I started the assignment by breaking it down, and define the creatively executional journey I was about to find a solution for.
The design needed to be able to contain so many different menu sizes, different products and different languages, but still fit for the store universe.
From the start, I knew that I was going to build an agile system, to automate the process, after we've determined the design of the new menu. I started the project by allying myself with an expert back-end'er in JOE & THE JUICE's supply chain department. Then I guided him in the direction of which I needed, as an output.
From a designers point-of-view, it can be a pain in the ass to have made one design, and then copy paste all 92 text boxes, 10 times to make print files ready for all markets. So I build this system where everything in InDesign is linked to an Excell cell-range. This made me able to make menus for a new market in a minute.
The back-end system is build so each department can control each value of the menu. Product Development (product recipes), Supply Chain (products in each market), Business Intelligence (prices), Market Managers (languages).
